MORE BED BUG TIPS

  • Don't panic!

It can be difficult to eliminate bed bugs, but it’s not impossible. Don’t throw out all of your things because most of them can be treated and saved. Throwing stuff out is expensive, may spread the bed bugs to other people's homes and could cause more stress.

  • Limit your contact with pesticides.

Think through your treatment options, resist reaching for the spray can of insecticides. Many insecticides on the market are carcinogenic, you don’t want to be spraying them where you live, other pesticides can cause other uncomfortable symptoms worse than bed bug bites!  All Green uses natural and safe insecticides that will keep you and your pets safe and we are comprehensive in our approach.

  • Reduce the number of hiding places -- Clean up the clutter

Bed bugs like to hide in cracks and crevices and come out to feed at night.

A cluttered home provides more places for bed bugs to hide and makes locating and treating them harder.

  • Freezing and Heat Treatments

Do-it-yourself freezing or heating may not be a reliable method for bed bug control

While freezing can kill bed bugs, temperatures must remain very low for a long time. Most home freezers will not be not be cold enough to kill bed bugs. Raising the indoor temperature with the thermostat or space heaters won’t do the job. Special equipment and very high temperatures are necessary for successful heat treatment.

  • Destroy their life cycle

All Green uses growth inhibitors that stop the bed bugs from reproducing. This makes it easier to eliminate the adults and the few eggs that do hatch will not be able to reproduce.  Also if your bed bugs are being brought in by someone else this will keep the infestation from taking hold in the structure again.

  • Bed Bug Mattress covers

If bed bugs are in your mattress, using special bed bug covers (encasements) on your mattress and box springs makes it harder for bed bugs to get to you while you sleep. Leave the encasements on for a year. Be sure to buy a product that has been tested for bed bugs and is strong enough to last for the full year without tearing.

  • Black Garbage Bags in the sun

Place items loosely in Black plastic bags. Lay them in the sun on a hot summer day.  Don’t over pack the bags or they heat will not penetrate.    Let them sit in the sun for several hours.

  • Use your Washer and Dryer

Regularly wash and heat-dry your bed sheets, blankets, bedspreads and any clothing that touches the floor.  This reduces the number of bed bugs. Bed bugs and their eggs can hide in laundry containers/hampers Remember to clean them when you do the laundry.

  • Vacuuming

Thorough vacuuming can get rid of some of your bed bugs. Carefully vacuum rugs, floors, upholstered furniture, bed frames, under beds, around bed legs, and all cracks and crevices around the room. Change the bag after each use so the bed bugs can’t escape. Place the used bag in a tightly sealed plastic bag and in an outside garbage bin.

  • Steam Cleaning your carpets, furniture and mattresses

Deep cleaning will help remove the eggs, nymphs and adults. Steam cleaners can be purchased at your local store, you can do it yourself, or All Green can provides this service.
